Kung Pao Tofu

Tofu and lots of fresh vegetables are stir-fried in just a bit of oil in this traditional Chinese dish. This dish is usually made with chicken, you can use tofu to create a very similar vegetarian version.

Ingredients
Tofu                                         1 block
Ginger                                      7 – 8 pieces
Garlic cloves                             7 – 8 pieces
Sesame seeds                          1 tbsp
Red chilli flakes                         1 tsp
Green, yellow, red
bell pepper chopped                   1 cup
Roasted groundnuts                   1 cup
Diced onion                               1 – 2 nos.
Salt                                           to taste
Vinegar                                     1 tsp
Brown sugar                              1 tbsp
Tamarind paste                          1 – 2 tbsp
Soy sauce                                 1 cup
Water                                        as required
Cornstarch                                 1 tbsp
For marinating
Sliced tofu                                   5 – 6 nos.
Tamarind paste                            2 tbsp
Ginger chopped                           1 tsp
Sesame oil                                  1 tbsp
Sesame seeds                            1 tsp
Soy sauce                                  1 tsp
For garnish
Green bell pepper

Method
Heat oil in a pan, add ginger and garlic cloves, sesame seeds and sauté.

Add chopped bell peppers and toss well then add ground nut.

Slice and Chop tofu block.

Add diced onion and chopped tofu and mix well.

Add brown sugar, vinegar, tamarind paste and mix well.

Add soy sauce, water, salt and mix well.
Add cornstarch water mixture and mix well.

For marinating
In a bowl mix tamarind paste, soy sauce, garlic chopped, sesame seeds, sesame oil and mix well then add sliced tofu and mix well.

Put the marinated tofu on grill plate.

Then grill with soy sauce from both sides.

Put prepare tofu bell pepper sauce on plate then place grilled tofu sliced on it in single layer.

Garnish with green bell pepper juliennes.
