Fish curry (Macher jhol) with cauliflower

It is an authentic bengali dish, all time favourite macher jhol with seasonal cauliflower and spices for 4.

Ingredients
Fish Rahu                                 500g (4 pieces)
Cauliflower                                400g
Bay leaves                                2
Cumin seed                               1 teaspoon
Ginger paste                             2 inches
Onion                                       1 medium
Garlic cloves                             6-7
Tomato                                     1 big
Green peas                               1 tbsp
Turmeric powder                        2 teaspoon
Chilli powder                             ½ teaspoon
Green chilli                                2-3
Salt                                          to taste
Sugar                                       ½ tsp
Oil                                            5 tbsp
Garam masala (optional)            as required

Method
First put fish pieces in a bowl. Add salt and turmeric powder mix and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
In the mean time make paste of ginger. Finley chop onion, garlic and tomato, cut cauliflower in big floret, cut potato in medium cube.

Now heat oil in pan, add fishes and fry till light brown. Remove and keep aside. Add cauliflower floret in same pan, fry till light brown then remove and keep aside. Add cut potato in same oil, fry till light brown, remove and keep aside.

Now in the same oil add bay leaves then cumin seed and sauté. Now add chopped garlic and stir, then add chopped onion, sugar and stir till soft. Now add ginger paste and sauté then add chopped  tomato and stir, add turmeric powder and chilli powder until oil come out from masala.

Now add fried potato and stir, then cover for 2 minutes. Open cover and add required water and salt and stir. Cover and cook for 5-6 minutes or till potato become soft. Now add fried cauliflower, green peas and fried  fish then again cover for 2 minutes. Open cover add garam masala powder (optional).


Macher jhol is ready to serve.
